Whoa guys! I read a great book that I want to recommend. It is called The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland In a Ship Of Her Own Making, and you can read the first eight chapters free online here here! I love creators who utilize the internet to get rad weird stuff out there. I wrote a glowing review of it on Goodreads in which I compared it to a fairyland version of something by Douglas Adams, but for webcomic fans I would also like mention that it feels like something Megan Rose Gedris would write/draw? Except slightly more – mmm – mature than either of those. But also more childlike. I thought it was pretty swell, anyway.
NEWS FROM EARLIER THIS WEEK IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: I’ve officially changed the update schedule from “Tuesday and Thursday” to “twice a week” which better reflects my reality and yours. If you’re worried about missing something, I always always post new comics to my twitter and facebook page. There’s also the RSS Feed if you like… being fed!
In other news, I am going to be at Conbust in Northampton, MA again this year! I will be behind a table, selling things! I will also be at TCAF, but only as a guest. But if you still want to meet me, or maybe even buy a zine or button or something, that would be cool! If you want to tell me about or show me and my partnerguy around places in Toronto, that would also be cool.

↓ TranscriptMaria wraps her arms around Charlie, who is working on his laptop.
MARIA: Hey, roomie. Excuse my animal shelter smell.
CHARLIE: No big deal. Welcome home. There’s some rice and beans on the stove if you want any.
MARIA: Aw, thanks - best temporary roomie ever.
MARIA: What are you working on-
MARIA: OH! It’s ok! I’llgoIdidn’tseeanything!
CHARLIE: Oh! No no! It’s not porn! I’m shopping for a packer!
CHARLIE: See? I can try out the feeling of having a different form - you know - there.
MARIA: Scoot over, I wanna see if they have a ladie’s section.
Haven’t read “Fairyland” yet myself, but Catherynne Valente is amazing. I would highly recommend her recent novel “Deathless”. (1st 3 chapters free here: http://www.tor.com/stories/2011/01/excerpt-deathless-by-catherynne-m-valente) Also a bunch of her shorter fiction is available free online. Yay.
P.S. What do Charlie’s laptop stickers say? (Or is that Maria’s laptop that he’s borrowing?)
I would for sure like to buy a zine at TCAF, am super excited for it this year!
I am a total Cat Valente fangirl 🙂 I haven’t read Fairyland yet because I’m still working on her second Prester John book… but I’m really looking forward to it. *longing glances in the direction of my bookshelf*
Charlie’s stickers say “Resist Racism”, “There is no such thing as a single-issue struggle because we do not live single-issue lives. — Audre Lorde”, and the picture in the corner is Beartato from Nedroid.
I’ll be sure to pack some zines for TCAF, and I’ll post info on a having a meet-up when we get closer to the date!
