The book Maria is reading is Anya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol. I just finished it, and it was great! I wish it was around when I was in high school. And I hope there are more books like it!
Maria sits with a book while Wren play video games in Maria’s apartment.
MARIA: So you got through the holiday unscathed?
WREN: Mostly. Mom skipped the actual holiday because she didn’t want to have to be nice to Brad, but I did a whole tour of campus for her.
WREN: The car rides there and back gave her ample time to inform me about how I should be finding Jesus instead of studying anthropology, and expound on the many merits of abstinent heterosexuality that I’m missing out on -
MARIA: Careful, there’s swarmers down here.
WREN: Thanks.
There’s a knock at the door.
MARIA: Got it.
WREN: I’ll probably see her again tomorrow to say goodbye, but I’m actually looking forward to getting back to classes on Monday. At least talking to Nhi is less awkward than talking to -
Wren’s mom is at the door!
MARIA: Uh, Wren...
WREN: Mom!
“Swarmers”? Obviously reference to a game I haven’t played. In fact, I thought Maria was warning Wren about some people nearby who might react badly to Wren’s conversation…
Cliffhanger!
Dun dun DUNNNNN!
why does Stressed!Wren & Dead Space seem like a match made in heaven
I feel like my face right here could use a Cathy-style caption, “ACK! ACK! ACK!”
Aw noo I just realised the comic is back to find a cliffhanger :O nooo
PS I’m glad you’re back and doing better now :>
I’d just like to add my voice to the chorus of “Glad you’re back”. 🙂
I’ve dropped a recommendation of Riot Nrrd on my own blog, too.
