So, the thing is: I really didn’t want to get into Palmer’s (Harry Potter’s real name, btw, I’ll add em and Nhi to the character page soon) assigned gender (this soon, or at all) because, not really relevant! But also: I liked this joke. And ultimately: I think my readers are mature enough that knowing eir assigned gender is not going to give them an “excuse” to misgender em. Because y’all are pretty dang cool.
WREN: Look, I’m sorry. You’re just not around.
MARIA: Yeah, which is exactly why you should fill me in.
MARIA: You kissing strange women and Sam getting a girlfriend – these are things I should know regardless of my whereabouts!
PALMER: Actually, I’m not a girl.
MARIA: Oh, shit. Sorry, dude.
PALMER: I’m, uh, not really a dude, either.
MARIA: Oh God, sorry… new friend of Sam.
PALMER: Oh, I like friend! That’s what I should tell people that “F†on my driver’s license stands for.
This is awesome!
This comic makes me so happy. The more trans characters the better.
It’s always kinda weird when a trans person makes an assumption about another’s gender- but it does happen and it is quite humbling.
Thanks for rocking!
Also ‘genderfriend’ in an option with a nice ring to it 🙂
@Candace: Asexual people are generally people who don’t experience sexual attraction, not (necessarily) genderless people. There are far more than two genders and sexes; ~girl and ~dude could but does not necessarily mean genderless!
you make me happy. the world you’re creating makes me happy. i hope that my future children can grow up in a world with friends as diverse and loving as the characters here.
aghh the noise of joy and general yes-ness i made when i read the last line can definitely not be recreated with letters
I squee’d.
Awesome strip, and very well written! I like that you did this.
An asexual? (I hope) I’m not sure, but I think you’d be the first webcomic with a genderless human.
Yes. This is a fabulous comic. (This specific one AND the entire series.) “F=Friend” or “F stands for Friend” could make a super-cool t-shirt, too. 😀
AUGH! So cute, love the happy eyebrows at the end. Second Satah, GENERAL YES-NESS! <3
Palmer’s reaction in the last panel inspired glee in me. <3
Holy crap, Spivak pronouns! I was beginning to think I was the only person who actually used those… I think I’m going to like Palmer, e’s cool ^^

Hooray for Spivak pronouns!

The rollover text made me lol.
This is hands down the best comic on the internet. That is all :p 🙂

You’re so cruel to your characters, letting them screw things up and be awkward all the time 🙁
At least the mystery of Harry Potter’s gender is now solved 😀
Hurrah for non-binary peeps!
